Broad-Spectrum Tetracycline-Class Treatment for Ornamental Fish
Minocycline HCl is a semisynthetic, second-generation tetracycline-class antibiotic formulated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections in ornamental aquarium fish.
Its broad-spectrum activity may help manage certain gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infections affecting freshwater and marine fish. Minocycline is commonly selected for quarantine or hospital tanks when a tetracycline-class treatment is appropriate.
Each bottle contains 30 capsules, with 100 mg of Minocycline HCl per capsule.
Why Choose Minocycline?
Minocycline has chemical and pharmacological properties that differ from doxycycline and older tetracyclines. However, tetracycline-class antibiotics can interact with calcium, magnesium, and other minerals, so water chemistry may affect treatment performance.
For best results:
- Use in a separate hospital or quarantine tank whenever possible.
- Remove activated carbon and chemical filtration during treatment.
- Maintain strong aeration and stable water conditions.
- Monitor ammonia, nitrite, pH, and fish behavior throughout treatment.
- Consult an aquatic veterinarian when treating severe or persistent infections.
Minocycline vs. Doxycycline

|---|---|
| Semisynthetic, second-generation tetracycline | Second-generation tetracycline-class antibiotic |

The appropriate treatment depends on the suspected bacteria, aquarium conditions, fish species, infection severity, and previous treatment history. Laboratory testing or guidance from an aquatic animal health professional provides the most reliable treatment selection.
